A FAMILY TREE OF FIVE CENTURIES FOR THE FAMILY CANNICI – CERESIA

Rosa Maria Cannici lives in Santo Stefano Roero, a town of 1300 inhabitants ca., province of Cuneo. When she can, Rosa Maria always comes back to find again her peace inside that house which saw her growing up, where every single stone talks about her parents, her people. A long time ago Rosa Maria wrote an email to know her ancestors’ names and make a surprise gift to her 4 brothers and to their nephews so that they could always remember that there is a place in Sicily which represents their roots.

It is a town which awaits for them each time they want to come back. Right from the start, “Gratteri nel cuore” started to build a family tree managing to climb back up to – for Cannici Giovanni’s family, his dad, Antonio and Di Maio Giuseppina’s son – even up to 1500. The mother is Calcedonia Ceresia, a surname coming from Gratteri to Palermo, when Giuseppe Ceresia, a policeman, born in 1901, married Francesca Cannici, born in 1905, Paolo and Calcedonia Civello’s daughter.

Rosa Maria read the birth and marriage records of her great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents, she understood that her granpa’s nickname Sipiuni was actually her great-great granpa’s name, Sipione Cannici married to Rosa Vento.

Now her grandchild know their story and they will tell it to their future children.
